Fishboy at Rubber Gloves Nov 13th 2022. Video by BY ANIMALS MISTAKEN FOR MONSTERS
We are playing as a trio on Saturday Nov. 12 in Dallas at Double Wide with Dogbreth, Teal Stripe and Wish Kit.
The Next day we’re playing an early show in Denton at Rubber Gloves with Brave Combo, Python Potions and Yeah Def to benefit my neighbor Daniel Rodrigue and his family whose house caught on fire on Halloween night. 5pm! There will be food and friends.
I gave an interview on the 200th episode of the supernatural podcast Paranormal Almanac where I sat down with Curt to discuss how he found my 2005 (cover) song Haunted Highway and the weirdness that has been happening surrounding that song.
It’s honestly a fantastic talk and Curt is a wonderful host. You can find it here or wherever podcasts are found.
It’s a long episode and I’m in the 8th(!!!) hour if you are only looking for Fishboy stuff. Curt has a very cool and active community over on the PA FACEBOOK where sometimes plays Fishboy in the background of live videos.

The Best Ever Boom Box Cassette Tape from Durham (full live version

Hello!
The idea for the new Fishboy single (out today) started as a bitter joke nearly two decades ago after we were asked about the Mountain Goats one too many times on tour. The Best Ever Death Metal Band from Denton is the (incredible) first track off the album All Hail West Texas. Both are celebrating their twentieth anniversary this month.
As most Fishboy audiences are fans of this song/album we routinely get roped into small talk where we are pressed to explain that the Mountain Goats, as great as they are, have no hard connection to Denton, TX as far as I know.
One night in the car I told my bandmates that I should write a revenge song about the Goats hometown and have it haunt them in greenrooms and merch tables across the world.
This joke came in and out of my mind until I was giving a virtual interview last Spring by Riley Soloner. Again, he mentioned the song, and again I made the revenge joke but this time I felt compelled to give it a shot.
After writing a killer first verse for The Best Ever Boom Box Cassette Tape from Durham. I did a quick search to find out the album was only reissued out of Durham. Crushed, I sat the song aside for a few months and and really, truly, deeply asked myself why I was even compelled to write this here and now in 2021.
After discovering the obvious solution of swapping “released” for “reissued,” I decided to finish out the track in character as if my 20 year old self had grown crazy and bitter at the growing popularity of this song only to have a come-to-god-moment in front of an audience and accept the magic of a simple lo-fi recording out-pacing it’s piers to the point of lasting forever.
Writing these words into song, however exaggerated they may be, has inched me a little bit closer away from comparing my art to others. My hope is that it does the same for you. Thank you Mountain Goats. Happy Anniversary. Hail Satan,
Eric
