Aspen2k from Classic Creeps! This is the 18th installment of the “Video for Every Song” series in which I post a one shot static scene for every song in the Fishboy catalog. Not to be confused with the other video for Aspen2k, this new one features the character’s own embroidery portrait. For the holidays I’ve opened an etsy shop where you can buy your own custom portrait in the Classic Creeps style!
Comic! This happened while we learned a new song last night.
Don’t Try by Radioactivity
from S/T on Dirtnap Records
2,667 photos of 3,300+ records were taken on October 24th and 25th by Dave Koen and Eric Michener at Mad World Records in Denton, TX.
Happy Black Friday! Here’s a video I made with Dave for a song off the new Radioactivity album! A rad band featuring Mark and Jeff who recorded the IMAVOLCANO EP. Check out the full album, its one of our favorites of the year!
Some photos from our show last Saturday.
Great pictures from the show on Saturday. The power kept going out on the PA so we would start a song and then play the last half of it super quiet while I yelled. Also, it’s been confirmed that Daniel Markham and the Birds of Night are two of the best acts in Denton. Check them out if you haven’t yet!
Archibald Aspen! by Fishboy from Classic Creeps.
This is the 17th installment for the “Video for Every Song” series and the start of side b on the LP!
Every character/song on classic creeps has their own embroidery portrait (like the one above) and for a limited time I am taking commissions at my etsy store for your own embroidered portrait just like Archibald
Here’s me and Chris Ford aka Christopher the Conquered covering It’s Raining Men by the Weather Girls. Chris is doing a series of cover songs this year and wanted to choose a song related to Denton while in town. We decided on this one co-written by Late Night orchestra band leader and UNT alum Paul Shaffer.
Happy Movember! We are playing a benefit show this Saturday at J&Js with Daniel Markham and Birds of the Night! in Denton!! It will be our last show of the year!
Announcing Ghost Elephant Monday! (I finished writing the next album)
About a year ago at this time I decided to expand on one my new songs and turn it into the first track in a new story-record/concept-album/rock-opera/next-fishboy-album whatever you want to call it. The song, inspired by one of the first moving pictures, is about what happens to the elephant in this video after she dies. The album, now completely written, expands on how she seeks revenge, haunts her killer, and fights her way into the afterlife!
First, lets recap 2013 a little early: I put out a book of tour journal comics, painted some paintings, Fishboy became an epic rock band again, we recorded a 3.5 song story EP, made some videos, booked a short tour, canceled that short tour, put out the 7” with a comic and fancy jacket, made some more videos, played some shows, drew some more comics, painted some more paintings, made some gifs, and in general just tried to make good things that we want to see in the world.
In between all of these moments I’ve been writing songs for this story in chronological order, scrapping the ones I don’t think are amazing and holding on to the ones that I love (much like the process for Classic Creeps and Albatross) As of last week I’ve finished them all and a recording date is set for late January.
I have a lot of high ambitions for this record including some form of accompanying comic book better and longer than the comics for previous releases. So starting Mondays I’m going to present some form of art work featuring Topsy the ghost elephant. Here’s the first one!
Oh also, and I may not even need to address this, but I’m totally aware that there is a wealth of great and not so great Edison/Tesla/Topsy/elephant works of fiction and non-fiction out in the world. Without giving anything away, I feel my story and it’s point of view haven’t been told yet, and I hope you’ll listen.
Here’s to 2014!
Andre Revere! by Fishboy from Classic Creeps.
This is the 16th installment for the “Video for Every Song” series in which I shoot a one shot video and post it on youtube in order to offer an alternative to the many ugly unofficial uploads of Fishboy songs. Eventually the whole catalog will be streaming on the least practical and bafflingly popular medium of youtube.
Every character/song on classic creeps has their own embroidery portrait (like the one above) and for a limited time I am taking commissions at my etsy store for your own embroidered portrait just like Andre!
